MMAJunkie reported earlier today that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s next fight may not take place until 2008. 5thRound.com can confirm that Jackson does have an injury on his left hand, as he was seen wearing a split at the UFC 76: Knockout weigh-ins in Anaheim this past Friday.
After what had occurred on Saturday, there’s no telling who will be challenging Jackson next year for his Light Heavyweight strap. Of course Forrest Griffin and Keith Jardine both shot themselves up the Light Heavyweight ladder, but most MMA experts feel that it may be too soon for both of them to get that shot. That leaves Houston Alexander and Wanderlei Silva.
Wanderlei Silva is fighting in December so it’s unlikely that he will be Jackson’s next opponent, but he could earn a title shot with a victory at UFC 79 in Las Vegas. Alexander on the other hand is coming off of two victories by knockout and is someone who is building up a name for himself in the UFC. The only probably here is that the marketing machine that is Dana White would have a hard time promoting this fight as a main-event bout because most fans aren’t dying to see this fight.
