In memory of the Croc Hunter
September 4, 2007

A year ago today, September 4, Steve Irwin was killed by a giant sting ray in the ocean, near Australia's Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Queensland. He was shooting a documentary on the deadliest sea animals.

Irwin was Australia's most famous animal activist/conservationist and television personality.

He had a legion of fans across the world who were addicted to his hyper-passionate and rather daring wildlife programmes that showcased the most fearsome creatures of the animal kingdom.

Irwin and his camera roamed dangerously near the menacing fangs of crocodiles, hovered close to the forked tongues of snakes and peered at the claws of lizards, alligators and other such critters, giving his viewers a huge adrenaline-rush.

His television show The Crocodile Hunter, in no time at all, was Animal Planet's most well-received programme, winning an Emmy a few years ago.
